Internationally Renowned Behavior Analysts Co-Author
Important New Protocols for Assessment of Individuals with Autism of All Ages
WALNUT CREEK, CA and MARIETTA, GA 6/1/2015 – Dr. James Partington, BCBA-D, founder of Behavior Analysts, Inc. and Dr. Michael Mueller, BCBA-D, co-founder of Stimulus Publications, announce the release of the last two protocols to their recently published assessment protocol system: The Assessment of Functional Living Skills (AFLS®).
The Vocational Skills Protocol and The Independent Living Skills Protocol are now available. These last two in the six-part series enhance the user’s ability to complete the successful pathways necessary for person-centered programming and transition plans. Each book includes more than 400 skills in over 16 critical areas. Users can easily assess the individual using the system.
Based on the methodology of applied behavior analysis, the AFLS is a unique tool for assessing basic, home, community, school, vocational and independent living skills of individuals with autism of all ages, including adolescents and adults, and is easy to use for parents, educators, professional staff and other caregivers.
The AFLS series is a groundbreaking tool that continues to enhance overall programming for children, adolescents and adults with autism. With more than 1800 daily living skills in 56 skill areas, it can assess an individual’s functional, practical and essential skills of everyday life, in their home, school and community -- all based upon overarching goals for maximizing freedom, independence and opportunities.
The prevalence of autism and related disorders is steadily increasing (the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention now estimate that 1 in 66 children in the US have been identified as having an autism spectrum disorder), as are the needs for assessment tools and programming for an aging population of diagnosed individuals.
As author of the highly-acclaimed ABLLS-R® system (Assessment of Basic Language Learning Skills-Revised), the industry standard for language and learning assessment, curriculum guide and skills-tracking system, Dr. Partington’s work has focused on identifying existing skills in order to concentrate teaching efforts on those most needed by each child.
Dr. Mueller is the creator of the Autism Skill Acquisition Program (The ASAP), an all-in-one ABA teaching program for children with autism, and is an author of The Big Book of ABA Programs and The Big Disc of ABA Programs. These tools allow teachers and caregivers to more easily program high-quality teaching lessons in homes and schools.
Drs. Partington and Mueller’s mutual interests in Applied Behavior Analysis and developing these much-needed tools for life-long assessment sparked a partnership resulting in the publication of The Assessment of Functional Living Skills.
The AFLS series is useful and appropriate for a very broad range of learners and situations throughout their entire lifetime. All assessment protocols are currently available and include; Basic Living Skills, Home Skills, School Skills, Community Participation Skills, Vocational Skills and Independent Living Skills.
These new assessment protocols will help educators, parents, caregivers and other professionals develop enhanced person-centered programming and transition plans, providing critical roadmaps for parents concerned about where their children will go as they grow and their ability to live active, meaningful lives.
